Abstract

Over the past few years, the authors have obtained 30 new radiocarbon dates for twelve sites in the regions indicated in the title of the article. For radiocarbon dating both the liquid scintillation method and AMS technique were applied. Analysis was conducted on the vessel fragments or set of ceramics and an each date concerns to a certain vessel. 15 dates were obtained for the weakly ornamented vessels decorated by dashes, impressions or by comb stamp in the forest steppe Volga region. Most of the values agree well with the array of existing dates for the Neolithic complexes of the region and fall within the range of the middle of the VI – middle of the V millennium BC. Just 5 dates were obtained for the Neolithic pottery of forest zone of the Middle Volga basin. Several dates supported the earlier suggestions of scholars about cultural chronology in this region but the others discuss about the duration of lasting of undecorated pottery tradition. For the first time for the Kama-Vyatka basin 10 dates were got from six samples of char using the AMS method. The results are rather contradictory. In some cases, the older age can be explained by the hard water reservoir effect associated with cooking of fish food inside of pottery. Other dates have correlation with dates obtained earlier.
