Geographically presented items come from nomadic burials of the XIII-XIV centuries studied in the Volga-Ural steppes. The chance finds chronologically related to this period are also used in the work. The objectives of the scientific research is to introduce new objects into scientific discourse and to creat of a set of finds related to writing, based on the archaeological material of the XIII–XIV centuries found in the mentioned region. The results obtained indicate the presence of writing in a nomadic environment, where it was most widespread only among the elite, which could use it for internal correspondence, record-keeping, as well as in literary work. It should be noted that to date, some of the items related to writing in the Golden Horde have been identified just in the monuments of nomads of the Volga-Ural steppe zone.
