Abstract

The article analyzes the finds of bronze mirrors and their fragments from the Oka-Don watershed area, dating to the Scythian-Sarmatian period. They supplement the set of sources on the issues of cultural impulses, migrations, various trade and military contacts on the borderline of the forest and forest-steppe zones of the European part of Russia. The mirror finds are examined within the context of the general cultural and historical situation in the region and its surroundings, based on key archaeological sites. Considering the cultural and historical processes over a significant period of time, it can be concluded that at an early stage (Scythian Archaic) cultural impulses were traced to the Oka-Don watershed area from the Dnieper forest-steppe, while in the Sarmatian era they originated from the Upper and Middle Don.
