Abstract

The article is dedicated to renowned Russian archaeologist Andrey Alekseevich Chizhevsky, whose professional activity spanned almost four decades. Like many of his peers, he familiarized with the basics of archaeology in his school years. His youthful passion for history and archaeology led him to Kazan State University, where he took his first professional steps in science under the guidance of such experienced researchers as A.Kh. Khalikov, E.P. Kazakov and P.N. Starostin. Special attention is paid in the paper to the scientific studies by the scientist, including the long-term study of the monuments of the Eneolithic, Bronze and Early Iron periods of the Volga-Ural region, as well as the characteristics of the main directions of his research activities (cultural and chronological periodization of the Ananyino cultural and historical region, transformation of the funeral rite from the early metal period to the Early Iron Age, reconstruction of the geological and geomorphological structure of the capes and defensive structures of Ananyino fortified settlements, substantiation of the existence of agriculture practiced by the population of the Ananyino cultural and historical region, etc.).
