Abstract

The main objective of this publication is to introduce into scientific discourse the excavation materials from the Kara-Abyz hillfort, discovered in 1928 by a joint expedition of the State Academy for the History of Material Culture (GAIMK) and the Government of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, directed by A.V. Schmidt. The Kara-Abyz hillfort is eponymous for the Kara-Abyz culture, which was originally defined largely based on the findings from these 1928 excavations. However, despite subsequent investigations, the materials from this archaeological resource has never been fully published or made accessible to the academic community. This paper aims to partially bridge this gap. It presents a collection currently housed at the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan, supplemented by archival documents from the museum holdings and the Institute for the History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg).
