THE GOLDEN HORDE HELMETS FROM THE FUNDS OF THE STAVROPOL STATE MUSEUM–RESERVE NAMED AFTER G.N. PROZRITELEV AND G.K. PRAVE

Abstract

The article deals with helmets from the burials of the noble Golden Horde warriors of the late 13th century beginning of the 14th century, stored in the funds of the Stavropol State Museum-Reserve named after G.N. Prozritelev and G.K. Prave. An attempt is made to analyze these items of protective weapons from the experimental and practical point of view. The main focus is on burials in the city of Novopavlovsk and the village. The Seedman. Both burials were destroyed as a result of earthworks in the territory of the Stavropol Territory. The work is divided into two parts. In the fi rst part, a helmet was examined from the burial place near Novopavlovsk, an analysis was made, structural features of the helmet were revealed, and the closest analogues found in the North Caucasus were shown. In the second part, a helmet from a nomadic burial ground near Semenovod is considered. This helmet was previously considered in another work, which led to an additional study of the surviving elements and the detection of inaccurate interpretation. The relevance of this article in the application of empirical and theoretical methods, through which it was possible to create detailed graphic reconstructions and copies with preservation of the original sizes of subjects of research.
