ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS AT THE UVEK SETTLEMENT IN 2014–2017. PRINCIPAL RESULTS AND PROSPECTS

During the period under review, excavations have been made in the central part of the settlement, its western and southern fringes. Layer from the XIV century are represented in virtually all the excavation sites. Excavation site VII in the southern fringe diff ers from other ones in high percentage of Russian ceramics; the site is dated from the layers of 1280–1360s. The occupation layer is exceedingly saturated with fi ndings, the share of silver coins is high. At the excavation site VIII in the central part of the settlement, the medieval layer is dated back to 1310–1360s; the layer of the XVIII century is fi rst recorded here. A necropolis has been discovered in the settlement western fringe (excavation site IX), with one of the burials is dated from the coins of 1364–1365, and a fragment of an above-ground structure, with a silver ring and coins of the year 1361 found on the floor.
