Abstract

In this paper analyzes the formation of the medieval archaeological collection from Bolgar (Republic of Tatarstan). The conducted research allowed to divide the Bolgarian collections into two stages of admission to the foundation: 1) 1891–1930 – the period of collecting, when the Museum received the materials collected by local historians, lovers of antiquity, members of Society of Archaeology, History and Ethnography; 2) 1938–1967 – the period of large-scale systematic archaeological research on the territory of the Bolgar settlement, the period of activity of the Kuibyshevskaya and Volga archaeological expeditions under the direction of A.P. Smirnov. In 1967 received the latest materials from the Bolgar settlement, because in 1965 the Bolgar state historical and architectural museum-reserve was established and all the collections remained in the local museum. To date the available collections from Bolgar are of great scientifi c interest.
