Abstract

The article highlights the historiography of the Bolgar district. Some invest in the concept of "counties" – the principality, others emphasize the importance of archaeological material in the study of this issue. A comprehensive study of the center and its districts allows us to single out local variants of the culture of the Volga Bulgars, draw analogies with other Volga centers of the Golden Horde, the Russian lands. Considering the economic component of the vast territory, scientists can trace the stages of the formation of the city, the surrounding district, and the vast territory under the infl uence of the city center in diff erent historical periods.
