Abstract

The funeral complexes of Uelgi burial ground and their reconstruction allow us to speak of the extreme syncretic nature of the site. This multiculturalism did not develop simultaneously or coexist. The construction of the necropolis lasted almost three centuries. The picture which can be seen at the early stage is by no means similar to the cultural kaleidoscope observed at the very end of the existence of Uelgi burial ground. It is this dynamic change in the ethno-cultural image of the population of the Uelgin Valley that allows to recreate the origins of the South Ural peoples in the developed medieval period. The materials from Uelgi burial ground
make it possible to assert that the stylistic groups constitute three temporal and cultural horizons. The earliest comprises burials with South Ural materials of the early 9th-10th century, which are located in the saddle of the middle area of the burial ground. The next horizon consists of burials with materials of the 2nd and 3rd groups - - Ural-Kazakh and Hungarian stylistic groups dating back to the 9th-10th century, respectively, and the latest horizon is represented by materials of the Ural-Altaic and Ugric (Petrogrom-Yudin) groups dating back to the 10th-11th centuries.
