Abstract

The authors publish a collection of archaeological fi nds from a destroyed burial of the Srostkinskaya culture discovered by accident at Gorny settlement in the territory of the northern foothills of Altai (the Krasnogorsky Region of Altai Krai). The paper contains a detailed description of armament, belt headsets, everyday life and jewelry items. The information about the items is supplemented with recorded parameters, conclusions of X-ray fl uorescence analysis, graphic drawings and photographs. Particular attention is paid to a well-preserved iron saber. A substantial body of analogies is used, on the basis of which the studied complex from Gorny is
dated the second half of 10th – the fi rst half of the 11th centuries AD, and its attribution to the Srostkinskaya archaeological culture is confi rmed. The conclusion is made about the military character of the accompanying inventory in the burial of a person with an average administrative title in the hierarchy of military ranks. The studied materials and available survey results have made it possible to identify a medieval site which was included in a rural development area.
