EXPERIENCE OF RESTORER TRAINING UNDER THE “CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL LEATHER” INTENSIVE PROGRAM UNDER THE “RESTORATION OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE” MASTER COURSE OF KAZAN (VOLGA REGION) FEDERAL UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The article features the results of joint training of the “Restoration of Historical and Cultural Heritage” master course students of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University and restorers of the Institute of Archeology named after A. Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences with the framework of a workshop on the basics of conservation and restoration of archaeological leather. The workshop system is included in the master course program and conducted during the students' internship period. The students of the intensive course acquire theoretical and practical restoration skills under the guidance of the leading restorers of the Russian
Federation.
Archaeological leather conservation methods were reviewed and practiced during the completed classes. Workshop teacher O.L. Shvets presented the contemporary materials and techniques used in the restoration laboratories of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch, the Grabar Art Conservation Center and the State Hermitage.
