The work analyzes the formation of collections of spherical vessels from the Bolgar settlement during the century and half history of the study of the settlement. The study summarized the materials of two stages of the study of ancient settlement: 1) XIX c. – 1938 – the period of collecting, unsystematic research on the site of ancient settlement. Sphero–conical vessels from Bolgar are represented in the collections of the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography members and individual collectors and are currently stored in such scientific centers as the Archaeological Museum of Kazan Federal University, State Historical Museum, National museum of Tatarstan, Hermitage; 2) 1938–2009 – period of systematic large–scale works on the site of ancient settlement. The fixation of the locations of the object–finding of the objects made it possible to map the Sphero–conical vessels, to localize the clusters and their concentrations in the complexes. The vessels of this stage are represented in the State Historical Museum, National museum of Tatarstan and Bolgar museum–reserve. The history of the formation of collections of sphero–conical vessels, together with the topography of the findings on the map of the ancient settlement, provides an opportunity for further study of the place of this category of dishes in the material culture of the city.
