Abstract

The paper features the main results of scientifi c activities by the Institute of Archaeology named after A. Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences in 2020. The research activities of the Institute were carried out in four fundamental and three applied fi elds. Signifi cant territories of the Republic of Tatarstan were studied to identify cultural heritage sites in 2020. In the framework of the implementation of the state program of the Republic of Tatarstan “Preservation of the National Identity of the Tatar people (2014–2021)”, work was carried out in the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan, Saratov and Ulyanovsk Oblasts and the Republic of Kalmykia. The Institute annually publishes two academic peer-reviewed journals: The Volga
River Region Archaeology and Archaeology of the Eurasian Steppes. An important event in 2020 was the opening of a dissertation council for the defense of candidate’s and doctoral theses in the fi eld of “History and Archaeology” on the basis of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.
