Abstract

This article presents two sets of coins of the Crimean Khanate, revealed on the territory of the Syrty locality in the Vadinsky district of the Penza Region. The chronological and weight characteristics of each finding are determined, the location of their coinage are identified as well as the belonging to one or another ruler. As it was found out, the earlier set is dated to the middle to the second half of the XVI century and includes coins minted in the period from 1550 to 1584. The later set dates from the middle-second half of the XVIII century and consists of coins minted in 1743–1775, i.e. the time interval between them is about two hundred years. Besides that, depending on the historical events that took place in the region, the possible causes and ways of penetration of Crimean coins into the Penza region are considered. In this respect, the article briefly describes the relationship between the Russian state and the Crimean Khanate, and also provides information about the time of the construction of defensive fortifications on the territory of the Penza Region.
