Abstract

The author examines the concept of A.Kh. Khalikov concerning the entry of the Middle Volga region and the Cis-Urals into the area of influence of the cultural traditions of Siberia at the end of the Paleolithic era based on the materials of the Postnikov Ovrag site which was studied by V.V. Golmsten at Samara. The concept is considered in the light of recent data on the Late Paleolithic of the Urals and Southern Siberia. Various points of view on the nature of analogies in the material culture of the Postnikov Ovrag, the Talitsky site and a number of Siberian monuments of the late Paleolithic are presented. According to the author of the paper, the concept of A.Kh. Khalikov today is not directly confirmed by facts that paint a more complex picture. However, research in this direction continues and the possibility of returning to the idea of A.Kh. Khalikov in the future on new materials is not excluded. The sites of the Postnikov Ovrag on the Middle Volga and the Talitsky in the Urals remain the mainstays in the discussion about the genesis of the late Paleolithic industries of the Volga region, the Urals and the Trans-Urals.
