Заметки ученых и путешественников конца XVII – начала XIX веков о Крыме и Крымском ханстве

Представленный в публикации материал даёт возможность составить представление о постепенном накоплении сведений об истории Крыма с конца XVII – по начало XIX столетия. Имевшиеся знания в основном базировались на свидетельствах средневековых письменных источников. В ряде случаев конъюнктурность этих сведений очевидна. В первую очередь это касается: 1) неверных сообщений о завоевании Крымского полуострова Тамерланом (или его креатурой – Идигеем) в 1395 г.; 2) поголовным истреблением населения Каффы (и других городов) османами в 1475 г.; 3) утверждение на престоле в 1478 г. Мехмедом II Менгли I Гирея и признание Крымским ханством вассальной зависимости от Османской империи. Следует отметить, что до настоящего времени не обнаружен ни один документ подтверждающий эти ошибочные суждения.
