Amphorae From Bagaevka Settlement

The purpose of the article is to introduce into scientific discourse a set of amphorae originating from excavations of the Bagaevka settlement, a large rural settlement situated in the region of the Golden Horde city of Ukek. The work provided the characteristics of groups of amphorae that come to the Ulus Jochi by sea in the second half of the XIII – XIV century. For the first time, a collection of amphorae originating from the Lower Volga rural settlement of the Golden Horde period has been studied. Characterization of the morphology of transport amphorae of three groups is given: Trebizond, Triliya and SSS stamped group. The article outlines the technological features of amphora production of each group. The majority of amphorae fragments (174 out of 181) belong to the Trebizond group. The article deals with the peculiarities of the topography of amphora finds at the excavation area, the patterns of distribution of amphora fragments are determined. A hypothesis has been stated about the place of keeping amphorae and their secondary use by the population of the Bagaevka settlement.
